I put some comments up on the Facebook page of this guys Targa. The comments have been taken down (didn’t know you could do that). Nothing bad, just an observation or two.

It’s pretty sad when someone can ask £85k for a mishmash of different year parts and even sadder that someone might part with that kind of money sucked in by the lure of pictures of a lovely tangerine paint job on a sunny day.

The seller imports a lot of early cars. Worth following on Facebook

A mix of some original, some projects and some restored

He has a sepia Targa which I’ve been watching for about 4 months which has dropped in price from around the 60k mark to somewhere in the 40’s. It looks a very original car and is far better value for moneythan the tangerine car crash. (As long as you like brown).

He also had a very nice light ivory coupe which was around the 60k mark which had the same side decos as Rich’s car i.e. totally original. It looked a good buy.

The tangerine dream Targa has nice coupe side windows. Bet the Targa top is wind and water tight.

Agree the Sepia one is much nicer

Mike, just out of interest what is the difference between targa and Coupe side windows? I hadn’t realised they were different.

Targa side windows have opening quarters. Here’s a 71 Targa,



The tangerine car’s interior has been raided from a 68 car. Lots of other things too including lhd headlights.

Presumably there is something different in the way they interface with the targa roof too based on your comments, are they a different shape/profile to standard coupe quarters?

I’m pretty sure they are interchangeable as a whole frame but the Targa top is quite tricky to get wind and water tight even with the correct Targa frames and seals (plus a dollop of dum dum) that the coupe ones won’t be any easier. Plus, they just don’t look right. I bet you don’t get a test drive in the tangerine dream in heavy rain to find out.

I maybe missing something here but the coupe frame is one sweep from bottom of A-Pillar to B-Pillar, these frames (missing opening 1/4s accepted) stop at the top of the quarter. So are they coupe frames that have been cut off, or targa frame with coupe glass?

The targa frames also look to have a sharper bend and a flatter top than the same area on the coupe. Although this might just be the angle of the picture.

Later Targas - certainly from SC's onwards (but can't remember if the 2.7's were the same) - had fixed/non-opening quarterlights. I thought they were anodised aluminium though.

However, the ones on the orange car look like chromed brass ...
