Hi All
I am currently at the beginning of my 911 journey, having come to the party far too late in life (although I did try, unsuccessfully, 20+ years ago to persuade my dad that we should buy a 70's 911 from California (I seem to recall you could pick one up for $3000 approx!) and restore it together.
Having had a drive of 2/3 so far I think I would be happiest in a 964. However I drove a 70's 2.4 that had been taken out to 2.7 with PMO carbs and that sounded bloody awesome. However I suspect that age of car needs someone who either has deep pockets or is mechanically knowledgeable. I want something that can be used for long journeys and wont be tempramental
Initial questions:
-there seems to be so many knowledgeable people on this site with little help apparently needed doing quite intimidating things (engine removal, wiring harnesses etc etc). Is there a definitive mechanics bible for the 911 that people all use or are you all just bloody genuises? What manual/books purchases would be recommended?
-Is there list of recommended specialists on the forum eg mechanics, interior re-trimmers, engine builders etc and is it within the rules to ask that kind of question re recommendations for a particular job or mechanics in my area? I have JZM on my doorstep but I suspect from the lavishness of the premises and their stock, I will not be able to afford to have them look after the car!
-Is it possible to make a 964 sound like a 2.7rs or similar and if so what would you need to do/budget for? That yowl/howl was amazing
Thanks chaps
Matt
