Had an issue this weekend...Car was running fine and then all of a sudden the Fuel pump became really loud and the car started coughing. I got out and the fuel pressure had dropped to around 1psi. I switched off and then restarted the car, pressure increased but would then drop again.

I managed to get home. The weather was very hot yesterday but feel like this shouldn’t cause the problem

Below is some video. The Fuel pump has always been “loud” , it’s always made a clicking noise vs a whirring. The pressure is now at 3psi...something stuck in the fuel line or does the pump sound knackered !?

I have one of those pumps to feed my carbs on a 3.2, 3 psi as yours through an adjustable pressure regulator.
Mine clicks, does not wirrrr, should click.

I would replace all filters first, but on mine you can strip the pumps down to clean the internals.

Old style Bendix Pumps have 'points' fitted and they click as the points open and close.

The latest 'Solid State' designs don't click they simply whirr.

Your pump is clearly operating but if pressure in the fuel line is only 1 psi then either the pump spring has broken or there isn't enough fuel being delivered.

If 'your' pump normally produces 3 psi then it has a relatively soft pump spring fitted and these parts don't normally break.

It sounds more like the problem is on the suction side of the pump and not enough fuel is being drawn into the pump chamber.

It may be worth testing the power supply to the pump as delivery will also fall significantly with reduced voltage.

These pumps don't deliver much fuel at 11V and below and need at least 11.5V to meet their spec.

If you just disconnect the inlet fuel line and stick it into a bottle of fuel you can soon check if there is a pump fault or a blockage on the tank filter.
