All,

The sound deadening in my engine bay has collapsed and is beyond redemption. There is very little there to work from unfortunately.

Some of the well known suppliers lists 65-69 dimpled pad which is made of a fibrous material as being period correct.

However my car seemed to have a 3 layered foam type pad which came in 5 pieces with it being a 912.

One for each side and then 3 pieces across the back where the present replacement pad is one large piece.

Does anyone have any experience as to when the change over from the fibrous dimpled pad to a plain black foam occurred. The 5 piece solution is NLA.

Anyone with a 68 with an original sound deadening pad?

HI Matt - I can't see how the 68 912 would be different to a 68 911 but there are wiser than me on this forum. I bought the period correct one from Stoddards - pricey - but as its for my 67S wanted it to be correct - link here if you haven't already seen it http://www.stoddard.com/90155689140.html, but think its correct for your car. There is a chance that the one you have in situ (or falling out) may have been a replacement and not original?? Anyways, if your'e near Lisburn you're more than welcome to come and have a look at the Stoddard one I have. Rgds Robin

Robin, thanks once again for that kind offer. The one from Stoddard is the kind of dimpled one I was referring to. It has one hole for the rear demisters, my car has two pipes, an easy fix for sure.

912s seem to have pads on the sides of the bay too, I presume due to there being less ancillaries in the way compared with the 911.

There is a chance that my pad was not original, but I would tend towards the opposite. I know where the car has been since new. It was very well fitted (or what was left) and was of the 5 panel design.

Hence why I thought the wider community may have seen something like this before. In a lot of ways a 3 pieces across the bulkhead makes more sense as there is no awkward fitting around the hinges etc.

Any 68 MY owners out there, 68 seems to have been a good year for one year only parts anyway?
