I have established that the correct colour for my fan cowl on a 1964 car is light grey.
I have found several paint code references on line but they are all American and nobody seems to recognise them.
Does anyone know the UK paint code for a light grey fan cowl

Re: Porsche 356Sc fan cowl paint codes
I spent ages trying to track down the same info. In the end my engine was rebuilt by PRS which included getting the tinware re painted. I'm fairly certain they don't powder coat them, but prefer to get them enamel sprayed. Never then less I've got a full RAL colour book so will try and let you know the closest match to a RAL colour. You'll also read a stack of info on what level of sheen you are supposed to go for. Their are many conflicting stories and the truth (as far as I can tell) is that nobody really knows. there are a few original cars which could be used as evidence however you have to also assume they have aged a little and may not be a true reflection. I have read that Porsche weren't overly fussed about the finish on the tin ware so the level of sheen did vary.

Re: Porsche 356Sc fan cowl paint codes
I have spent hours on line trying to get an answer. It seems that several people have heron grey as the nearest match so that is what I have gone for. In fact sprayed it this afternoon and it is a very light grey which I am happy with. As you say porsche were not that fussed so as long as I have the correct colour ie light grey. I am not to bothered about the shade
The tin ware I am having powder coated in satin black. Not original but it is long lasting and keeps its sheen much better

My 356c is heron grey, however the RAL7035 is a slightly different colour, close but not heron grey.

Re: Porsche 356Sc fan cowl paint codes
Thanks for the trouble of finding out. As my garage and sheds were getting beyond full with bits of car everywhere I decided to rebuild the engine quickly to make some space. I plumped for heron grey and am quite happy with the end result. With the tinware done in black, silver filter and replated metal bits it’s looking pretty good. One surprise was the coil. It was light blue but a bit dirty. Washed it down in petrol and all the paint came off. It was more like emulsion than gloss. Now repainted it and it looks brilliant so for a tin of paint at a fiver I am glad it occurred.
Thanks again
