DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

We’re downsizing very soon - very little room for the large number of car mags I’ve collected over the years. I like having them, but in all honesty, I refer to very few of them, only really to read a selection of driver reviews if ever I’m thinking of changing to a different model. ie not often.

What on earth do you do with them? It’s ridiculous to take them all the tip when someone might be really interested in them. But selling them all singly on eBay as some people seem to try to do, well, life’s too short.

I thought I’d start on DDK. Tell me if you think I’m doing this the wrong way.

Firstly I’ll point out that I’ve listed for auction on eBay 2 of them that by virtue of their scarcity might be of particular value to people trying to complete their collections. This is the first issue of Classic Porsche and the first issue of Total 911. Auction closes in 10 days..

What else do I have? This lot. And more.



I’m not going to split off random issues, haven’t got time, but if anyone on DDK wants this lot, and has a big car, then we’re not far off the M5 Junction 22 just South West Of Bristol.

If they don’t go this way I’ll do the local gumtree route, but I thought I’d start with DDK.

Sold a few rarer ones and dumped the rest

Same here - most have ended up being re-cycled via the local council 'dump'.

A few years ago I got rid of my collection of C&SC going back to 1983 - couldn't even give them away free (they had to be collected) so they went the same way.

Only a couple of days ago I 'off-loaded' ~ 100 copies of 'Octane' & C&SC from the past 4/5 years after asking local GP surgeries/dental practices if they wanted them (which they didn't) ...

Yup. You’re right Andy. When the 356 bug first hit me I’d have given my right arm for free issues of the Registry..

Know this feeling well, just purged my mini collection, but couldn't bear to scrap them.
I have an enviable collection of 70's USA Street Rod magazines back to issue #1, astonishing how much I remembered of those issues flicking through them. Very influential.

Sadly, most of these mags we have are worthless and eye wartering how much we have all spent on them, roughly £5 an issue.

I am planning on making wallpaper for the garage loo with mine.

Yes, I’ve just turfed out numerous copies of Old Motor, Collectors Cars and numerous other classic car mags, having leafed through them, there wasn’t much that required their keeping.

Must admit, apart from Classic Porsche, I’ve kicked the Classic car mag habit

The only magazines I’m retaining are those that relate to my car.

Snap, down to Octane on subscription and that goes on to a mate in exchange for Amature Photographer

Having moved ~ a dozen times in my (adult) life, I'm now even more 'minimalist' so, although I still buy magazines (I hate the idea of 'digital' books, magazines, etc), once read, I don't hang on to them for very long.

My record collection is about the only thing that I've refused to trim down ...

Noooo! I gave all my UK VW magazines away to a friend when I moved house. But I could never dump magazines - always pass them on. In years to come, the information people read on-line will have disappeared, while a library of printed matter will live on.
