Preferred case sealing methods and materials

What is the preferred material for sealing cases during an engine build currently?
This is for an aluminium type 4 / 914 case
Most of the info I’ve found online is 10yr old and American so wondering if there are any improvements or developments since then, or anything that’s more European/easier to acquire here

From my notes when we did a master class with Mike Bainbridge I have VW AMV 188 200 03 as the preferred sealant.

I seem to remember lots of people preach about the loctite 571 (I think that’s the number) as it is “factory”. But I believe it goes off fairly quickly so if you’ve got 2 of you putting engines together all day long it’s not a problem. If you’re taking your time the there is a danger that some of it is part set by the time it’s all buttoned up - leading to sealing problems.

Thanks for the info guys..
I will be doing this myself over a few days/weeks so maybe Loctite 571 isn't the best solution for me
Will take a look at the VW stuff :)

574 is the one but it only goes off once air is excluded, so you can take your time applying and positioning but once you start to tighten it up you need to keep going. I’ve never had an issue and never feel the need to rush it.

Ditto to above, 4 engines under my belt, no probs with timing the assembly, only me doing it too!

Good info- thanks guys..
I know there are lots of different loctites so will dig through the data sheets at work tomorrow and take a look at acquiring some.. couple of months from final assembly but like to be prepared- need to start posting some pictures I guess now things are getting underway

IIRC Mike Bainbridge uses a VW sealant for his engine builds, no idea what grade.
The Loctite has served me well and proves to be leak-free.
As ever, preparation is key to success.

Loctite Grey part number 5699 is, in my experience, the best. It is very effective.

As Brendan stated above, Mike Bainbridge isn't a fan of using Loctite 574, preferring either ThreeBond 1194 liquid Gasket Gray or VW's AMV 18820003 sealing paste.

Eric Studer recommended ThreeBond to me, which he had nicknamed gorilla snot!
