I’ve just bought an early steering wheel (from 914) and I’ve adapted it to fit my Momo boss (I’ll share the details in my main thread when I get a chance), and this beauty arrived today


It’s a repro one from karmann connection

Now I can see that it fits using the three prongs on the back and probably twists on



I can also see the horn connection on the left hand side of the above pic.

It’s going to screw into this (not yet covered)


Now the bit it screws into - let’s call it a ring - im guessing that needs electrical connection to the main column? I’ve nicely sprayed my ring so I’m guessing I’ll have to take some of the paint off to get a good connection?

I’d be grateful if someone could confirm I’m on the right track here

Mark - you need one of the spring-loaded horn contact pins (I have one in my advert in the Classifieds if you need one).

It presses into the hole near the centre of your steering wheel (at the bottom in your picture) & makes contact with the brass ring on the horn contact disc at the top of the steering column. A wire from the horn is also attached to the underside of this disc.

When you press the hockey puck it completes the circuit & 'grounds' the horn.

I'll see if I can find a picture to make it clearer !

However, I can't remember if the later columns like yours have the same parts ...

Unfortunately I think the later parts (like yours) are quite different so you'll have to improvise ...

Thanks for the input Andy - after seeing my post Ian popped round and between us we have it sorted. My horn ring is part of the Momo hub, so I just needed to get electrical connection to that and then establish that pressing the horn made the circuit.

I’ve drilled holes in the wheel that line up with the Momo hub

We were able to test it with a circuit tester and Ian’s wheel. I’ve then had to sand off bits of the paint I’d already applied to allow the connection to be made, and I should hopefully be good to go.
