Hi,

Has anyone got any experience of installing a CSP 'front and rear' disc brake conversion on a 356a ?

Apparently no modifications required and the drums can be re-fitted if required?

Any other alternative recommendations would be welcome.

Yep!

Just taken delivery of a front & rear kit & their dual circuit master cylinder kit.

'A' drums are unobtanium at present & the latest batch of Porsche drums will be around 1500 quid each! The CSPs weighed in at £2800 for vented fronts & solid rears, that included the master cylinder, reservoir kit & king / link pin kit from Machine 7.

The CSP fronts are a doddle but the rears divide opinion. Though CSP say they have revised the rear kit.

I'll keep you posted on progress, should hopefully mock the rears up in the next week or two.

Got chance to do a quick mock up of the rears yesterday, I don't anticipate any issues with the fronts so didn't bother.

Looks to be simple & fit well. Kit includes all braided rear hoses, custom handbrake cables, and conduits which I didn't get chance to check but they look up to the job.

Sorry for the low quality pics - I was rushing to get the car stripped for the body shop to pick it up.

Thanks for the update - certainly looks like a quality piece of kit and the prefect Xmas present.

Do you have a photograph of the entire kit as delivered?

PS what are the potential issues with the rear you eluded to in your first post?

Yes I can get pics of the kit as delivered, it is well presented & comprehensive.

The problems I eluded to were based on a conversation with Paul Smith who said the kit needed fairly extensive re engineering of the bracketry etc. I think these issues have been addressed by CSP & there were no issues with the major hardware when I mocked the kit up.

You'll struggle to find a better packaged & presented car product anywhere.

We have a customers 356B rally car in here at the moment for some major bodywork. Its fitted with CSP front discs and stock drums on the rear. Tandem master cylinder. I've driven it and the setup works very well.

We are long time users of CSP products and I can recommend them. They also stock individual spares and are very approachable if you have any technical questions.

Gill - have you managed to install those front disc brakes and if so what do you think?

No, the car is away at the body shop.

I know the brakes will fit fine & work well as I've used them on several VW buses over the years.
