Shock absorbers for comfort

I have decided that I want to build my project car for touring and comfort. I already have a hard low sports version so the next one is for me and the wife to tour with.
So, which shock absorbers should I chose? Out of the many makes available which ones will give the most comfortable ride? Most websites are extolling the firm sporting characteristics! Which isn't helping me.
Are the so called sports ones that are adjustable likely to be better (softer & more comfortable) on their softest setting than a "standard" non adjustable one?
Thanks Jon

It will depend on tyres - profile mainly and whether or not you have front and/or rear ARB fitted will make a little difference too.

I would use the standard Bilstiens. Lovely ride and very good when you need to press on a bit. My historic road rally car has adjustable Koni sports F & R. On the softest settings they do not ride as nicely as the std Bilstiens did on my previous car, so probably not worth the additional expense for a road car.
