H1 headlights

Can anyone tell me what side the triangular segment should be on a RHD H1 lens?

I have the triangle on the right hand side of the lens on my car currently (rhd 2.2 - looking head on at the car) but I have just received new lenses sold as RHD ones where the triangle is one the left hand side (again looking head on at the car).

Does anyone have a definitive answer? Internet searches are inconclusive - some say that the triangle should be on the same side as the steering wheel - others say the opposite.

Hi Vimal,

Here's a recent pic of your car (Hedingham). The lens shown here is not correct for driving on the left (RHD, UK).

Sounds like the ones you have bought are correct.

Cheers, Richard.

BTW I find it easiest to think of it this way:

If the lens had no "wedge" to deflect the beam, let's imagine it would dazzle drivers coming the other way.
So, which side would we put the wedge, to deflect the beam from the oncoming driver?
Answer: on the offside, the side toward the middle of the road / oncoming driver, not the verge. Which for a car driven on the left side of the road means the other side from yours in the pic above...

(realise it's not quite that simple and certainly not true of all headlight designs, but true enough for H1s and H4s).

Cheers, Richard.

Sounds like the ones you have just bought are correct. As Richard points out the picture above of your car is not correct for the UK.

Mike

Thanks all - really helpful - and explains the confusion as I was using my car as a benchmark.

The S has been through 2 MOTs and this hasn't been picked up!
