Battery positive pole covers

Hi,
Just to recap, I bought Porsche positive pole covers but found that they conducted and were shorting against the chassis. I didn't think this was an issue with old ones so I have been trying to locate some used covers instead. Upon speaking to Porsche about this, they informed me that another plastic cover is supposed to fit over the rubber pole cover. On the diagram below, part number 3 shows the rubber pole cover and part number 2 shows the plastic pole cover cover (!).

I am curious to know when these plastic covers (part 2) were introduced since I thought only the rubber pole covers (part 3) were used. Or maybe I'm wrong and they have always been needed and were always there?

Needless to say, I will be ordering the plastic cover covers but if anyone else has bought the rubber covers as a safety measure, please take note of the need to have the plastic top cover as well.

Kind regards
Gitesh

I have only ever used the rubber covers. The plastic one looks to be part of the battery.

Thanks, Nick. Everyone is saying the same. Seems odd that Porsche have introduced the plastic top cover. I have been unsuccessful in trying to source old rubber pole covers. If anyone has a couple to spare, please let me know.

The coating on the rubber pole covers is strange since the conductivity is shown when the material is pressed but not when it is lightly touched. As a work around, I am going to try spraying them with a rubber spray paint that has insulating properties. Will report back on the results.

Worst case, line the top pieces with thin rubber? I have used the new top covers (direct from Porsche) with 063 size batteries in LWB battery holes, without any issues. The 063 is a tight fit, i would be intrested to know if there is a better size battery...?
