DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

So, as I like to think in advance I'm going to put my 59A on some roller wheels whilst it goes away & do the wheels & tyres.

I was looking at the Pirelli Cinturatos, Michelin XAS & Vredestein Sprint Classics (which I had on my old A), but the obscene price of even the 'budget end' classic tyres is 'steering' me towards more modern radials, especially as I will need 5. Resulting in prices somewhere nearer the £200 fitted mark as opposed to £500 - £800+.

A quick search has yielded the two below as potentials as they have a relatively nondescript and less modern appearance.....

Dunlop SP 165 65 15

Avon ZT5 165 65 15

The problem is newer tyres are all 'eco' this and 'blue' that, the Avons have the lead in this & have a more period appearance as they aren't particularly jazzy on the sidewall. Also as my car is a UK A fitting Avons doesn't seem so bad...

Anybody else taken this route & have any advice?

I have Vredestein T Tracs for about £40 each from Camskill on my Healey. They’re 165/80x 15 and they replaced Cinturatos. They were old but the Vredesteins were noticeably better and they’re wearing well. I intend putting them on my 356 when the Nankangs wear out.
