Hi all

I have a 2.2E engine which is suffering oil leaks that are caused by the sump filling with oil when the car is left standing. It's possibly a worn oil pump that causes this.

I don't want to split the engine as I'm not confident that the magnesium cases would go back together again.

I've read about the Rothsport oil check valve which alleviates the problem.

Has anyone used them? Is there a similar item used on modern cars that does the same job?

I can get one for £300 but it's a lot for a 'guess' fix that may not be required.

This may help, it's the standard set up

I have always found the idea of a 'normally closed' check valve on the inlet side of an oil pump to be worrying.

The design concept used by Rothsport is similar to that used on the 996 Turbo Metzger engine where the valve prevents the oil draining down into the Turbo.

The idea is that the suction pressure which develops when the engine starts opens the valve.

The 996 Style Valve is, sadly, not always reliable



The Standard 997 part now used is $115.00 and IMHO should be regularly cleaned or changed.

If your pump is significantly worn then it must be better to address the fundamental issue.
