Hi,
Does anyone have any pictures.of the fitted defrost / demist tube from a 356 b. would really appreciate if someone can share them as Google can't seem to help. Also my tube has a piece of.cloth / fabric tape down the middle of it, does anyone know if this was standard or an owner modification?

I might be able to get a photo through the window showing the tube if that would help.

They all have the cloth in there, it covers the unwelded seam up that runs along the underside..
Ashley, I thought yours was a C? In which case it won't have the tube but two plastic stubs instead?

Mine is definitely a C but it seems to have old type rear window demisting.

Thanks for the picture, have you also got a picture where the rubber tubes go at the end and how the tabs hook into the screen seal

Maybe yours is an early "C" then? I'm no expert!
What I can say is that even on my scruff-bag AFN supplied T6 I find the system works really well, a nice hot breeze on the back window and the front too, keeping it clear on cold days!
I did replace the outer skin on the N/S longitudinal, and like the whole of the inner sill the pipe was painted in a brownish primer that I assume to be original, I guess if the pipes were perforated then it wouldn't be so good???
I would've loved a 356 back in the early nineties when I was a VW nut and I had to carry a de-mister pad, even in my totally rust free Californian Karmann Cabriolet....

There are earlier right hand drive cars than mine with later demisters but mine was a basic C so may have been using up old bits.
Mine demists well too unless you’re stuck in stationary/crawling traffic. Then you’re stuffed.

I've got an early UK supplied RHD c (build was started November '63) and mine has the 2 separate tubes going up to the plastic deflector covers in the bottom corners of the window. I'm 99.9% certain this is how all c's came as there was only one version of the C and one version of the SC offered with optional extra's. According to the kardex / order card from AFN mine only had 2 optional extra's 'Mitchelin tyres' and 'right hand drive' but still have the 2 tubes on the rear demister. My guess is someone has fitted the single tube in the past?

Mine is left hand drive, the chassis number is on the body and yet I doesn’t look as though it could have had the later deminster.
I’ve seen this sort of thing with many different makes especially with the lesser models.
