Can anyone tell me to what part the dash top to windscreen rubber seal fits? I've acquired a stripped rolling shell with a box of some bits but most of the rubbers are missing. I'm trying to see if I can get some generic seal sections instead of purchasing all special, but I cant work out on which flange this seal sits. Is it on the body windscreen aperture flange or on the dash-top pressing edge. Any advice would be welcome.

I think the seal is just decorative and merely tucks in between the dash edge and windscreen aperture, have a search on Google images there's a few pictures there which I'm sure will help. I'm currently restoring a 914 and will be replacing most of my rubbers as a matter of course. Many of the ones being replaced are still serviceable, possibly including my dash to windscreen seal. Let me know if you're interested.

The seal is a Tee shape in cross section with a slit in the vertical part of the Tee so it slips over & grips the metal windscreen flange.
Best installed with the glass out.
Its a specific shape & size and not a generic seal.
Also its a low cost item ( about £15) so not worth the trouble to search out a not quite right alternative that doesn't fit or look correct

Thanks to both for the advice, not sure I understand how there's enough space on the windscreen body flange to take a rubber and then bond the windscreen back onto it but the whole windscreen installation is something I've got to look into, but is a long way off!

I didn't think this part was available from Porsche, so it would only be from 914 Rubber in the US wouldn't it? I've not heard too good things about the quality of their parts.

Take some time and research this. The glass is spaced away from the frame; I'm thinking about 0.25". When fitted properly the glass is about even with the outside of the frame, and the trim will bridge it nicely. If recessed too far, the windshield trim will not fit properly; if at all. Back about 1985 I bought several factory install kits, and they had the spacers. The original caulking was heated by a resistance wire embedded within, but the replacement kits just had a butyl (?) "rope".

These are what you need for the screen fitting as Dave said.
You will have small holes where the screen sits and the plastic pegs push in.

I have a set of these spacers left over from my resto with screen fitting instructions from Auto Atlanta if you need them. I also have a seal that you could look at (it's for my car).

Thanks for the offer, but now that I know what these clips are I've found some in the box of bits! Also Three Two above is actually servicing my other car, so I'll take a look at the seal on his car, in fact I'll look over other seals as I need them for the door also for instance. Its just that the next step of my project is probably to get the whole instrument panel back together and I wondered if this rubber seal would stop me wrapping the leathercloth trim around the front edge of the dash panel. Seems like I can.

I think the seal you are referring to is the one that clips onto a lip on the winscreen frame, it then sits on top of the the vinyl on your dashboard. Fiddly thing to do, i had to slide a plastic lever under & then slide it between the dashboard and underside of rubber.

My advice when buying rubbers, do some research and not get blinded into buying all from a seller in the US like i did.

Many seals are standard such as edge trim, some t sections etc.

And those windscreen /trim clips are available from porsche 914 541 92111 about £1 each

The clips in the photo are for retaining the trim pieces. The spacers I was referring to are to set the position of the glass. Looking at the factory manual they suggest using 4mm spacers. These spacers sit behind the glass (accessed from behind the windshield) to keep the seal from being compressed too much; they are made to be removed after the glass seal is set. Similar 4mm spacers are used below the bottom edge of the glass so that the glass does not sit in the bottom of the frame; theoretically the glass should be centered with an even gap all around the frame. These spacers are removed before the trim is installed.
