I've recovered my split dash pad in fibreglass and now want to get a good texture finish using matt black to colour.

I've not done anything like this before. can someone with experience of this advise on product and methods?

Dean, there's Kolorbond in Birmingham who do textured paint for vinyl & leather. It's ok (textured paint) at best but it depends on what finish you want & how much you want to spend. I tried it but then sent my dash to Dash Doctor in Australia for a complete re-skin & the result is excellent but it's not cheap. Import tax was the killer.

You won't get a great original match with texture aerosols. They are designed more for plastic bumpers and small areas that you can blend into the original finnish. If you can't afford to get the dash professionally recovered there are DIY covers that might work better than textured paint.

If you are determined to texture the dash, make sure it is well prepped, primed and flatted before starting. Paint with even coats, evenly flatting very lightly with 800+ grit sanding pads and tacking off before the next coat. When the desired finish is achieved, tack clean and colour with the desired flexible plasic repair colour aerosol. Don't put too much product on at any one time as it can cause drying problems.
