Putting the door back together

I fought the car for ages to get the latch back in but while putting the door back together I noticed something is very wrong! I got the rod that connects to top button, that locks/unlocks the door, on the inside when it should be on the outside. Even if I take it all off again it not clear to me it going to fit?

I think it will mean taking it apart again. Yuck!!
Unfortunately this bracket fell out when I was taking off the window winder. It not clear from the PET where it goes back?

I think that MONSTER bracket is off the window channel down at the bottom of the runner to the quarter light, but experience is only 73T.
I recall the re-fitting of the door latches a real pig.
I have to strip mine out for the re-paint soon and not looking forward to the task.
I used to engineer these things in the late 80's and I assure you that they are WORSE in late '80s American production cars as the connecting road are all pre-assembled before you thread the lot into the door!
Patience is a great virtue....

Hi - do these help at all Neil ?
The brkt you found loose in the door should be attached to the lower part of the window frame:

The bracket secures the lower end of the windows frame to the door and bolts through the centre of that circular indentation you can see in the photo in the lower part of the inner door skin

Thank you. I've had the new latch on/off three times now. It's been a trial. The problem is the latch does exactly match my old one so I'm having modify it a little!

Hi - sympathise with your angst. Was the single most pissiest part of putting my car back together (apart from the through body electrical connectors for the rear...)
Are you sure you need to modify the latch to get it in? I only ask because I struggled FOR AGES to get mine in and then I simply clicked the lock to 'closed' position and hey presto it went into the hole perfectly.
I'm sure you're not making the same mistake as me, but I though I'd share just in case. Andy's photos and diagrams are good reference too....
Oh - and don't forget the door membranes when you're done....
