Seems like a good starting point. Good but expensive is soooo much better that rubbish and cheap. A project car is honest, so many non-project cars turn out to need restoration. Is that a DDK name a few bids back? If so GLWP. W

Yep, I did have a little bid. At $30K (the level this morning) even I could make a profit. But I'm not seriously in the running for this one.

Pretty sure this is the car that the current owner discovered a few months ago, fairly comprehensive thread on earlysregistry on this, general section from memory

$55,000 (£42,000) for a rotten but completely matching numbered 65!
Shame its not still two dollars to the pound as I would have been a buyer!
Another year and I might just bag me another 911 project!

Plus buyer's fee of 5%, plus shipping, plus import duty (for the German buyer).
Still a bargain.
But I would say that, having recently paid a lot more for a less rusty version of the same thing.

what were you expecting it to be bid to? Or another way, what would this have been bid to back in 2015?

Well... a restored version of the same car ('65 Bali Blue matching numbers) sold for $308K plus buyer's premium in summer 2014:

Base car for that one was nearly as crappy as the BaT car, if I remember correctly.

Yes, interesting auction to watch, that one. If this was a few years back, I would have expected it to reach somewhere around the $80k mark at least. Even in today's market, and bearing in mind it's a full on project with lots of hard to find bits to fix out or source if you're doing it properly, I think the buyer got a good deal. Would have had a punt myself but workshop is already full of Porsches in bits.
