Does anyone know how exactly these Original Porsche locking wheel nuts work ?

Is this a 2 piece nut where the outer hexagon part is not threaded and simple locks into the 1/2 that seat into the wheel with a locking drive ?
Are they aluminium or steel ?
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
My latest purchase arrived with these (no locks). Think they are aluminium - will check and let you know.
Cheers, Richard.

So arecthey in 2 pieces - a base and locking keyed hexagon top ?
They are described as longing nuts so they must lock or key somehow?

2 pieces - yes. (Mine are the part number you mention).
type911 description spells it out, I think:
"Old style nut that takes the lockable barrel type lock. Price is for one nut without lock"
The part I have works standalone as a nut: has domed part, thread to engage with stud, hex part for spanner, you know the sort of thing... but it's longer than a normal aluminium nut and has a hole in its centre.
I assume the locking part (different part) fits into that hole, and that when in place the lock part prevents our would be thief from getting a spanner on the nut.

I have these on mine. The out locking part/barrel with key slots over the nut, an expanding mechanism open and closed by a quarter of the key engages on the inside/hollow part of the nut.

So, just to ne clear, is the blsck aluminium nut in the link 2 pieces or one piece?
One of the descriptions above just implies that it is an extended open aluminium nut (1 piece?)

Yes one piece, but part of 2 piece system. It doesn't spin or anything. It's the nut part of these. Barrel with a key in it slots over the nut covering the flats so you can't get a wrench on it. A quarter turn of the key releases the barrel/cover, exposing the nut so you can undo it.
