Quick help needed ..... 2.4S with trombone oil cooler. Drained oil with thermo closed.
Normally I refil with 10litres, drive it to temp to get thermo open etc then top up as Required based on the dipstick level
To cut a long story short, can't measure the oil level using the dipstick or the gauge
So I've put in 11.5 litres as from memory that's about right .... quick question does that sound about right or too much ?

That sounds quite a lot. Would have thought about 10.5 litres but see how you get on.

Totally agree, far too much.
My changes are invariably with the cooler stat closed and even open the trombone won't fully empty.
I put roughly 9L in (I semi pre fill the filter) and then run to hot and top up to 1/2 way Max to Min, it takes about 1/2 L more, so about 10 in with the stat closed.

I've changed the oil on this car every year for 14years ... I'm still amazed I can't remember how much oil I put in over above my 10litres.
I was sure I've put in towards 12 litres in the past because I used to buy 3x5ltres as 2 cans was never enough

I can double that!
I need to buy 15 litres as 10 is not quite enough, but eventually you end up with a 'free' change.
I think you are taking the car to Le Mans soon, so if I were you I'd get the level to 1/2 way on the stick.
You might have to pump some out of the side tank. Machine mart sell a very simple hand pump which should do the job.

I think I'm going to drop a litre from the tank .... As said, can't measure on the stick or on the gauge at the moment so doing it a bit by guesswork . Tick over is at 1500rpm currently , (will sort this when back from spa and I can get time to sort the throttle bodies ) , so with 10 litres it's showing nothing on the stick. With 11.5 litres it's showing 1/3 on the stick ....neither of these readings really mean anything.

I will state the obvious a say that the oil needs to be at operating temperature 180 or so before you can measure it on the stick that you cannot use but which measures 1/3 with 11.5 litres.
My understanding is that the system complete with the trombone oil cooler contains 13 litres. I have always put 10 litres in and then when warm added maybe 1/2 litre.
Maybe you should talk to the guru of the lakes before you have a problem
Anyway good luck with it.

Thanks jason ... yeah these were measured at full temp
I'm actually quite curious to know how much oil is on move at 1500rpm as opposed to 800rpm. If there is a couple of litres being sent around and thus not in the tank then I've overfilled by 1/2 ltr

You could just go for a blast and see if you get oil everywhere.
I can go and measure the stick and its relative position on the oil tank if it helps so you can use an improvised stick

Just make sure you don't get a drop in oil pressure under heavy braking, if you do add some more oil.

purely out of intersest, would be curious to know where on the stick the oil level is at with the handthrottle set at 15oo rpm

I dipped it at 900rpm and then at 1400rpm and although at 1400 it measured a bit less it was not hugely different - maybe 10%

Thanks jason .
Your results throw a spanner in the works slightly as mine was just at 1/3 .... but having spoken to mike Bainbridge I decided to drop some. Mike did say I should stop messing and get my mfi sorted though
So, 1.3 ltrs drained using my handy £1:50 jug and 35p bowl from Wilkinson's
I think I have 10.5 litres + whatever was in the cooler pipes

In answer to your question that you seem to have deleted
From top
total 250mm
to min 240mm
to max 175mm
However on pelican there are lots of different ones people have so may not help at all. I would do whatever Mike says.

sorry Jason .. i started a new thread with that question

Looks like you've got the correct dipstick too for a pre74 lwb tank .
As I 'm pretty sure I've got a very slightly later tank I've just ordered a later dipstick from Porsche so I'll see how i get on with that
