Any opinions on this please ......

https://www.mohrimports.com/for-sale/po ... a/913.html

I've read about them previously and think they are / were one of the longest established Speedster replica manufacturers - this looks ( to my untrained eye ) pretty authentic.

The company selling are in Monterey and we're staying in Carmel ( approx five miles away ) for the classic car week in August - I thought it would be great to buy it ( and as long as I can get it insured etc ) drive it in the area and on the Pacific Coast highway for the week and then have it shipped home. It's about £25,000 to buy and probably £3,000 ish to get to the UK which when I've had a look at what's presently for sale seems OK.

However any thoughts would be very welcome

Thank you

There's a thread on Pelican Parts Off Topic forum discussing the 'best replicas'...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topi ... plica.html

it might be worth a read and there are a couple of posters who have experience of Intermeccanicas.
Looks like a fantastic car....especially if you get to drive it in Cali...

Not that easy to get it registered in the UK I'm guessing - what would it be registered / imported as?

The documents state it's a 1961 VW and it has a VW chassis plate which is shown in the photos on the advert. What do you think ?

I couldn't handle a "Q" plate !

Thanks for replies - pelican link is very interesting

Best speak to someone who knows more about the registration but things are getting tighter and I'd no longer be happy driving a Car registered as a VW which actually has a shortened VW Chassis so actually should be IVA'd - I know people do but try telling an insurance company it's a Beetle in the event of a claim

I think it's a little over priced for the age, ask some opinions over on the Speedsterowners.com. A lot of Inter owners there that'll pipe up what to look for etc.

I'm not 100% but I'm sure it will not need IVA as long has it was built before IVA came into force. Which it was. Worth giving Vosa a call and speak to them to clarify things, they will confirm about whether it'll have a Q plate to.
