DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Starting on the bodywork on my '79 SC.
I know the 'rules' and have taken lots of photos, but getting frustrated with Photobucket and its dislike of the forum and frequent crashing, so I'm trying to build a story off-line for posting here as soon as I can.

I've taken the paint off the major seams, tops of wings, etc to see what's what. On the b-posts, there are visible spot welds in the door seal channel, but none visible on the seam with the rear wing. These look flat and with shiny clean metal, but were these seams leaded, so I need to remove more 'metal' ?

I've tried a search, but without success. I read Barry's post which gives good detail about the location of spot welds on the sill, but 'remove the b-post' is about as detailed as it gets. So, how should I approach unpicking this b-post / wing seam ? Do I feel for the spot welds on the inside and guess where to aim the spot weld drill, just go ahead and chisel the b-post off and tidy up later (I suspect this is bottom on my list of my preferred approaches), or something else ?

Visited my OPC in Guildford and ordered kidneys (they didn't know what they were !), sills, b-posts & various bits that were cheaper than the 'usual places'. I've a big list of other parts to follow from one of 'those other places' shortly.

i am no expert or that familiar with the later wings, but i would try to find evidence of spot welds on the rear of the B-post.
It is not unusual to find lead on this corner. Have you tried putting a little torch heat on the flange to see if you get any lead run off ?

Obviously it is so much easier to unpick this flange off of the car if you are removing the rear quarter. I assume you are just cutting back the wing to replace the kidney bowls.? Make sure you brace the wing in it's position before you dive in.

It is also useful to weld some metal strips from the outer wing to the inner to keep it in it's correct position. I usually burn through the spot welds with a finger sander and then pop the weakened weld of with a thin decorators scrapper if i am trying to save the wing flange. Tread with care and patience as it is easy to make a mess of the edge of this small flange.

The spot welds are never visible in that location, you will need to clean the under seal from the rear and reference them from there
