Exactly what I'm looking for, they could even keep the engine although not sure it would survive the journey home!

Seems to have a left front cooler of some kind?....or is that the dealer fitted A/C?

$30,450 inclusive of fees which equates to about £25,000..........not surprised but it'll take another £50K to achieve a solid painted shell

I'm not really into talking about values and don't really care, I just want to build a cool SWB.........that said it seems to me that values of projects continues to rise whereas the selling price of restored or driving cars has plateaued to the point where even man maths is hard to justify!

I guess my SWB dream will remain just that for now!

I think SWB 912 is the way to go and as I posted elsewhere I regret cutting up an Irish Green 1967 912 ~23 years ago as I thought it too far gone to bring back to life. I chopped it up in the drive and took it down to the local tip in my dad's pick up! It was in fairly good shape compared to a lot of cars restored today.

What Ralph said - but then I'm biased. If you're not into talking values, then it's a no-brainer for a hot-rod.

No snobbery about at all but if I had a 912 I'd want to build it as that and along the lines of Jamie's car which is about as cool as they come.....

.....however I have a very specific project in mind and for me that's a 911.

My point is simply that imo 'project' vehicle prices have become hard to justify and make no rational sense.

In the 'good old days' you'd be able to buy a cheap project , spend a shite load of money on it and then sell it for about 1/2 of your total expense ... That's when you had to have proper qualifications in man maths

£25k for the 911 project shell - how much do you guys think a similar 912 shell would be? £10k? For the difference, and given how much you will spend on the total project, you might as well stump up for the base car that you want.

I know that shell was pretty poor but is it really £50k to get it to finished state? Bugger me .... that is more than I thought!

It is pretty bad...

If I were guessing, and if the folks doing the metalwork and paint were nearer 40 per hour than 75, I'd go with
550 hours on the shell x 40 + VAT = 26400
Paint = 200 hours minimum + 1.5K materials = 9600

36 K so far. Leaving 14K for panels. Sadly £14K does not buy as many panels as one might imagine, and that car needs a lot of panels!
Ouch.

Maybe man maths is still quite tricky.

Would be a shame to chop that up given Darren will throw most of it away and strip the shell etc. I guess you could sell the parts for £20k (made up number) and end up with a half decent starting point.

I wonder if you bought a running 911 SWB for £40-50k, what you could get back for the parts leaving just a shell?

Best use for that one is for someone to run and enjoy for years without having to spend a fortune.
