DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

One of my next jobs on my restoration is reinstalling all the cables and wires through the tunnel starting with the wiring loom and starter wire.

I can't find a photo of how it before the car was dismantled so want to double check that I have identified the wiring loom and starter apertures and also to check which way the wiring loom exits.

Firstly here is a photo of my tunnel and what I propose for the loom/starter and speedo.


Then I assume the wiring loom and starter cable are fitted as per the arrows in the following photo/diagram. In that they are secured by the metal tabs under the body and then go behind the torsion tube before going into the tunnel.


If I have got this wrong please let me know as it is one of my next jobs.

Looks like I identified the apertures correctly, but the routing is slightly different, in the loom exits the tunnel and turns right before going up behind the torsion bar.

remember the loom is routed from the rear of the car forward. Try to do it the other way and it will not fit.

Hi Andrew - I've recently done mine. I think the loom should be in an outer sheath when it exits the tunnel although I've seen some cars with and some without. I think it's for extra protection. I used a fairly thick walled heat shrink (38mm dia from memory) and shrunk it over the flared end where it exits the tunnel, this will stop sh1t entering the tunnel. I used about a metre in length so it finishes about level with the starter.

Thanks for the advice John, the loom goes in from the back and the starter cable from the front I think. The question is which one should I put in first?

The outer sheath on mine is cracked so I have already ordered some wide heatshrink. I think I went for 60 wide flat, which is 38mm diameter if I recall. Thanks for the tip on shrinking it over the tunnel exit - will give that a go.
