I want to get my 911's suspension set up aligned and lowered for a fast road set up. Who have DDK'rs used in the past?

I was thinking of going to Tognola near heathrow.

Ok well how many of you have done the job yourselves? Is it hard?

A Mate had his set up by a guy in Leicester, Chris at GC Racing, they prep 911's for racing, and it transformed the car.
I would have thought that Alignment kit and corner weight gauges would be a minimum requirement, so unlightly to be able to do this yourself....

I took my car to Francis Tuthill's in Oxforshire. It was fitted with Bilstien dampers, new factory rubber (where necessary), turbo tie rods and was lowered slightly. It's now using the factory Monte Carlo Tarmac rally geometry from 1965 (Vic Elford Tastic!). I haven't found a car yet that will live with it on the country lanes, not even the Mrs 993 Carrera (too heavy)!

Be prepared though, it was V Expensive! If I'd had the time and workshop space I would have done it myself. You don't learn anything from paying the bills.

So was the process difficult?

Does anyone have the various suspension set up specs?

It wasn't difficult from my point of view. I dropped the car off and picked it up again 2 weeks later.

If you were going to do the job yourself, I think it would be a case of organising everything before hand and making sure you had everything you needed before stripping the car otherwise it'd take ages. With early cars (May 65 in my case) most parts required modification before you could fit them. The damper manfacturers only cater for specific years, so my struts needed modifying before the new inserts would fit.

I'm sure you'd be able to get the thing bolted together without too much drama, but then would need to trailer (or very short journey) the car to have the alignment measured and set. One of the best tools you could invest in would be a spring plate protractor, you can buy digital ones these days. It's the only really accurate way to measure the rear suspension droop. I'm pretty sure if you follow the workshop manual you won't go far wrong. Go on have a go!

Dyno - Any news on the suspension? Have you made any progress? If so, who did the work?

As tempted as I am to sort mine out in the same way as Poorboy, I think I'm going to have to go bit-by-bit for financial reasons - starting with a sway bar at the back (alarmingly absent from my car at present), followed by new shocks and then get geometry/alignment sorted out.

Any advice on the above order of progress?

Hey Timster,

No I have yet to get my suspension set up. My car is drives pretty nice but I know it could be alot better. Its too high and it wallows a little to much really.

When funds allow in the future I am going to go for the Bielstien (SPL) Sport suspension kit and try to find a guy who can set it up like Tuthills but for mortal money. :) Although I don't know how much they charge it sounds mega expensive.

I want my car to handle well.. actually very well.

:)
