Seat belt panel for Feb 72 S.

I've reinstalled the seat belts on my 2.4S. At present they are just bolted to the side bulkhead and sit naked with no cover. I thought this was the correct way to do it but have seen some recently with the cover shown in this photo. It has a little slot from which the webbing appears and retracts.

Should my Feb 72 S LHD Italian have this cover panel, see photo below ( sorry that it does not show what I mean 100 % ). And if the answer is yes has anyone got a pair for sale ?

I should have said mine are inertia. The reel looks ugly naked as it is now, were they really like that ?

I think Italian delivered cars in that era were delivered without seatbelts (no requirement) so cover panel provision wasn't needed. I'm not sure that inertia belts would have been fitted in 72 anyway if they were dealer fitted at the time. I think 3 point would have been the norm. Inertia belts would be a retro fit on a 72. MY Italian RS has no covers. It therefore depends on if you are going original or modern.

Mike

Edit. Confirmed. Seatbelts not compulsory in Italy until 1988.

These are the Factory rear side panels used in (late ?) '72 & '73 to cover the inertia reels when fitted:

They've always been difficult to find - nowadays I think they're virtually impossible to find ...

You can (just about) see them fitted here in my old Sepia '72 T:

The rear side panels in your original picture look to be those from a later ('74-on) car - the 'slot' is in a different position - so they would need to be modified to work correctly.

Gary actually offers a complete seat belt kit if needed or can supply the panels on their own, I'll post contact details tomorrow.

Definitely needed if you have inertia seat belts......

Another shout out for Gary. His covers, once covered vinyl, look OEM. I'm so pleased with these and glad that the static belts have gone: 1970 911T
