Greetings All. My name is Michael and I'm the proud owner of a 1973 911T 2.4 coupe that I purchase at the age of 24 in 1988. My life plan was to buy a 911 like steve mcqueens before I got really old which was 25. (I know his was an S ). Now in my 52 year life has kickstarted my mission to get my 911T back on the road. A brain heamorage last year then the birth of my son on Xmas day have left me in no dought that it's now or never to get the car done. My first major step was to send it to be assessed at Autofarm. This has now been done and I am looking for someone to take on this task to get her ready for the road. The engine turns by hand , the alternator is seized and the fuel needs drained etc. A detailed report will be available from Autofarm. I stay in Stranraer Scotland but as the car is at Autofarm I would hope to transport the car direct to its place of repair. If anyone can help e I would greatly appreciate it. Many thanks . My email is michael.davitt@yahoo.co.uk. Kind Regards Michael Davitt

Hi & welcome to DDK

Assume you're looking for a one stop shop restoration ? Are you wanting / planning to do any of the work yourself ? Or are you happy project managing and using a number of different specialists ?

actually re reading , is it just mechanical work ?

What's wrong with Autofarm as it's there and they've done the report?

Hi Michael,welcome to the forum.
For all things mechanical, you won't find much better than Mike Bainbridge near Kendal-MB Porsche Engineering. Not to far from Stranraer either.
Good to see another Scottish member, I'm just down the road from you, near Newton Stewart.

Hi and welcome.
Now or never is a fair point, and I don't walk in your shoes.
But enjoy the journey is another point of view.

Personally I've found it extremely satisfying to understand in detail what I'm doing to my resto car, do some of it myself, and choose the relevant specialists for all the serious work. Along the way I've picked the brains of many kind and wise people on DDK.
I got a lot of initial ideas from the restoration threads section of DDK - if you read a few of those you'll see plenty of specific references to experts.

Good luck, you'll find you can get pretty-much any question answered on DDK. As long as it's about dogs, watches and valuations, obv.

Cheers, Richard.

Welcome to the forum.

Richard makes a great point - there's lot's of stories documented in the resto section together with references to many a specialist. Worth spending some time having a good read.

Welcome to DDK and another Scottish owner. I would also recommend Mike Bainbridge for mechanical work and also Colin McNair at Performance Bodyshop in Airdrie for body and paint.

Good luck with the project.

Another early 911 in Scotland :bounce:

I think we need to get organising a long over due Scottish DDK meet.

Wise words above and plenty for you to consider.

Best of luck Michael and hope you get your car on the road soon.

All the best,

Hi

Given the car has been sitting for decades on your to-do list, I'd have assumed it needs a total resto of bodyshell, suspension, engine, etc. However your list above of jobs, suggests minor recommissioning.

Is any bodywork (& therefore paint) required?
