Gentlemen! So just converting from the original 1.7 fuel injection to a six with carbs!
So just refitting the petrol tank, do I still need the expansion tank ?? I'm guessing I don't need the charcoal filter box any more??? If I do where or how to plumb it ??

My understanding of the charcoal filter is that it is a further circulatory filter for the injection system only. I have seen it fitted to one with carbs. Having said that I have only seen standard 4 pot engine set ups. I don't think you'll need it.

I have run my 6 conversion with both FI and carb set ups. Whilst both have necessitated a non standard fuel tank due to RHD conversion, neither had any kind of expansion tank or carbon filter.

From what I understand of my Boxster race car which has a carbon filter in the OSF wheel arch, it is to let fuel vapour hit atmosphere via a filter. IMHO a nice to have, so will be deleting this winter as it is heavy!!

All the best with the conversion - it looks lovely from the pics I have seen on other threads.

Expansion tanks were add on top of the fuel tank on all models.
Just connect it up how the non-North American Market 914s had it connected.

No carbon filter, the small hose from the filler neck to the left side of the expansion tank and the small hose from the right side was connected to a Y connector in the overflow pipe. If you can’t get the Y piece connect a long small hose that exits under the 914 with the overflow pipe and water hose from cold air blower. Don’t have it just breathing under the bonnet.

Many years ago I filled my 914-6 up to the brim a few miles from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart where I was heading as I was part of a 914 display on the front forecourt of the museum. We had to put a drip tray of card board under the engine.
After we had a special tour of the workshop followed by a guided tour of the museum and just before lunch word had got to me that my 914-6 was dripping liquid at the front of the car on to the forecourt!
It was a hot day and the fuel expanded and exited down the overflow pipe.
If it just breathed under the bonnet the fuel would have exit in there!
