Introductions

Hi Everyone,
I'm a newbie to the forum and (almost) complete novice when it comes to actually wielding a spanner on a 911, but have already benefitted greatly from the wisdom of some of the good folks on the forum.
My girlfriend and I have just bought our first 911 - a 1979 3.0 SC Targa with 138K on the clock and paperwork going back to the '90's. Now, to be absolutely clear, I can't really say it's a 911 just yet. It's more of a "barn find" and therefore a rolling "bag of bits" of a 911 that someone, somewhere, has clearly done some pretty horrendous things to. Once we get through the 6 gallons of red oxide it was last painted with (no chance of rust then....hmmm), we'll get an idea of what really lies beneath. For now, it's "hope and prey!"
What's the idea for the project? Well, deep breath, the idea is to create a "Pass Master" - the ultimate alpine-pass weapon of a fast but reliable street car able to take us and our whippet down through France or Germany and up and over the alps with that gorgeous flat 6 resonating through the tunnels and up the mountain passes. No doubt everyone references the great work of Singer and for good reason. They've got one Targa in their gallery, the Montreal, and that's the dream. We won't be going that far but we'll look to get as close as sensible money (did someone just put those two words and 911 in the same post?) will let us!
First up though we're just going to get it back on the road and live with it for a bit and see what we want to do. But even that is quite a challenge and the list of parts and work required just to get her through an MOT is eye-watering!
Over the next couple of weeks we're off to meet a number of UK 911 specialists, experts and wizards as we start the process of formulating a project plan and selecting the folks we'd like to work with. I'll open up a restoration project on the forum and stick some photos on it so you can all roll around having a good laugh
So, that's it. A long intro but hopefully you get the gist of what we'd like to do and will be patient with us as we come back with a ton of questions.
