Spark Plugs

Hi, still on a steep learning curve with an aircooled Porsche. The engine was fitted with Bosch RO 302 plugs when I bought it, and my indie thought that they were wrong, and fitted Bosch WR 4 CC. Can anyone help me with a tutorial on spark plugs please ?

You don't say what engine the plugs are for but assuming a 2.0/2.2/2.4 air cooled I favour NGK & have always used BP7ES as a starting point.

Also, whilst not essential the proper Porsche spark plug tool makes the job a doddle.

Its a 2.4 TE with PMO's, I was hoping to find out what the different codes on the plugs actually mean ?

I run a 3.2 on huge PMOs and use the stock grade 3.2 plugs with no probs.
Not sure you need to fuss too much, stock 2.4 t plugs should do.

Hi All, where can I buy the spark plug tool shown in the picture above? Also I read somewhere on the forum that NGK iridium would be a good option. Any thoughts and which specific type / model no. do I need. Thanks, Alan

Ebay or the usual places, though they aren't cheap new. Try eBay and search under 924 spark plug tool as you might find it cheaper. It's exactly the same tool.

I recently posted about the merits of NGK iridium plugs (BPR8EIX), I took the choice from the NGK website and duly set the gap accordingly:

The Bosch RO 302 Platinum plugs previously fitted are in fact racing plugs which run on the cold side which explains the miss-firing and spitting on start up. ( cost £10 each ! ). Running much better on new plugs and now just waiting for my slot in September when Redtech are going to rebuild the motor for me

Might have missed this one. But I found this plug spanner really good. Good grip on the plug to help guide.
