alternative rear caliper and other brake questions

I know there are various alternatives for front calipers, but does anyone know if there is any alternative for the stock 1969 rear caliper? I'm told there is a problem with cracking of the stock ones, so an alternative will be needed sometime. Also, why did they mount the disc shield tabs under the caliper...anyone done an alternative mounting method, to avoid run-out problems. My rear brake pipes look pretty corroded...anyone had success pulling a new pipe through the tunnel? I might also have to run the pipe from the tee to left side under the gearbox, rather than over it, at least until the box is next dropped.

I'm not aware of 69s being prone to cracking, what is the reason for this and whereabouts do they crack?
