Targa main seal problems

Hi, i am in the process of putting my 914 back together after a long wait and have bought new targa seals from Porsche a while ago. Now I have come to fit them I cannot remember if the main seal should be bonded to the top rail or not? It appears to push onto the seam on the header rail, but then just falls off again.

Also, the lower second seal appears to be too long to fit the channel above the windscreen, I do not have the nerve to cut it yet, can anyone tell me how this should fit? or better still send a pic of how it fits at the end.

It's so long since I took much of the car apart that I have forgotten where many things go, probably due to having aged considerably in the time it's taken. I have come to put the plastic Targa cups in the rear boot and cannot remember which way up they should go. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan,

You don't need to bond or glue either targa seal.
Both seals should grip onto the car very firmly. The top seal has two tiny screws that fit in from underneath at each side at the top of the "A" pillars. Are your seals genuine Porsche?

The lower seal may need cutting to length especially at the ends around the "blocks" of rubber that are part of the top seal.

Maybe if you post some pictures of the problem we could offer more advice.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I bought both seals from Porsche. However, the main seal refuses to grip along the rail, it seems very flexible. The other seals I have bought have been very difficult to install on the areas where they grip the edge of a panel such as the rear boot seal. I have not fitted the sides of the targa main seal as I have been looking for the terostat sealing tape so that I can reinstall the Aluminium mouldings which hold the sides of the seal. Does the lower seal go on first or second?

It just seems that I am completely missing something altogether!

Will try and figure out how to post some pics and maybe you will spot where I am going wrong.

Cheers Jonathan.
