I appreciate there's been a good number of threads about crazy numbers being put on adverts... This one has to be up there. Unless they got the decimal point in the wrong place.

So from what I can I see this is a non-matching numbers 1960 356B T5 in a non-original colour, being originally white. Upside is its RHD, its in tip-top condition and a beautiful looking car. Query whether they were louvre'ing the engine lid back then on the Bs.

I'm not a massive "has to be as it came from the factory" person but... £125k? Makes the Pastel Blue 1971 911T at Specialist Cars look like a bargain.

I know the market will speak on this one. But to me its definitely out there. That said, if they can sell it for anything like that price they deserve the commission.

It would be interesting to see a few of these high priced cars put through an auctions. I appreciate auctions price very much depends on the day and people in the room but it might align a few expectations.

£40k engine rebuild but only £1.5k on gearbox? Hmmmm
Quite a few things wrong with that car for that money, and Amari were on some program about selling million pound cars or some such rubbish not so long ago.

If louvres appeal, you can have my 356C - in its original colour - for £115k (£10k discount for not being RHD):

They can have that old bag next to it too for a lot less than half that

Its OK, I'm off to buy a big chisel and going to bash some louvres into my 356B. I'll then be on the phone to both Amari and Tom Hartley and see what we can agree. In the meantime I'll be on the phone to my insurer demanding the agreed value is pumped up.

The only thing I can think is these garages have a list of wealthy clients who believe their every word. I get how this might work if buying a newish supercar... Buy it from dealer, trade it in against a newer one in 2 years and it keeps going. But not so much for classics.

I mulled it over. Andy, your 356 does look pretty sweet. I'll consider at your asking price. One question, is the GT written in permanent marker or just felt tip? If the former, I'm probably out.

I'm curious how you spend £40k on a push-rod engine build. Anyone know who the 'acknowledged expert in all things 356' is?

I can't see a 356 pushrod engine running to a 40k build, even an 1883cc twin plug monster.
