Given the recent slump in the £... The POA might be quite nice! LHD too.

Really nice looking car.

Lovely, I wonder what the price is? We will have orange 72T later this year. Last owner for 42 years and it's RHD with a stunning history file. Finding it hard to price hence asking the question.

Apologies for duplicate thread.
Now we can discuss why it's not sold...

I think, Richard, because there are only two people in the country that value originality. That will be you and me.

If you were looking for a no stories (there is a little historical sales detail on the early S) low owner, original paint, best colour, best interior combination and no accident history car then what could be better? Ok, it's not an S, ok it's not a 2.4, ok it's on non original wheels but my goodness that is still the car to buy.

There is only one downside, when you have bought it and enjoyed it for a while Richard there will only be one buyer when you come to sell because in ten years originality will mean jack $hit to 99% of buyers and I might not offer you what you want.

The last similar condition lhd 69E in Bahama yellow with original paint (thinning in certain areas showing the hint of undercoat- wonderful!) and low mileage with one owner (also a US car) was sold in the UK last year for about £80k. What did the new owner do, strip it and paint it...............

The last totally original paint 2.4T low mileage car I've seen sold for $130k and it was wonderful. 60k miles I think. I loved it because it was American (therefore mfi) but it was sepia brown (which I love) and isnt a universally liked colour so hard to sell. Andy lightweight had a very similar car once that found it's way round a few DDKers. It was a nice car too.

Hard bargaining under the asking price will get you a really nice car. Hell, I might even go halfers.

Regards
Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm not worried. As you pointed out elsewhere those sugary drinks are my friend; I'm sure you'll be able to afford it.

I talk the talk (and have been known to open my wallet for nice original bits  ) but the car I drive is not original, and the one I'm restoring needs rather a lot of work so is not going to have a lot of original paint left when I'm done...
Variant of the plan - you buy this orange one, and when I'm eventually finished with my resto I'll buy it off you. Obviously I'll suck through my teeth and mention how small the market is.

Is the sepia one you mention currently the property of Ron Vincent? If so, I've seen that car and like it a lot.

BTW I'm not sure I agree that originality is undervalued. For example at Goodwood a couple of weeks ago a fellow DDK-er and I were tut-tutting over the replica Durant on a very expensive-looking resto. Mind you neither of us could afford that car, I suspect, so maybe that proves your point - those who really make up the market have other priorities.
Anyway you'd know better than me from RS world. Surely original paint and provenance are important over there?

Cheers, Richard.

No doubt it does look truly lovely although maybe it hasn't sold because it's been painted so isn't quite that original?.....

....or maybe it hasn't sold because like 98% of unrestored cars it's rotten at the core with major rust issues?....

....or maybe the (pretty cool imo) tan interior isn't to everyone's liking?.....

....personally I put it down to those dreadful centre caps, change those and I'm sure it would romp away!!!

I'm one who values originality .. but true originality is a very scarce thing for pre74 Porsches .. mainly it seems because they were just too good for their time and thus used as intended which has the unfortunate consequence of cars condition deteriating to the point where eventually at various points in a 40+ year life work needs to be done , wether to correct rust , damage etc etc

What I like to see is a car that has been used , but also looked after well and repaired , restored correctly using the correct parts .. basically loved. From the photos, this looks like that kind of car .

But Some of the that tat that is showing up these days makes me cringe with such obvious poor / cost saving repairs, maintainence etc etc It is still relatively easy still to sort the wheat from the chaff though.

HAts off to those who embark on a proper restoration that will give these cars another shot at the next 40 years and all the memories that come along with it

Yes, that's the biggie with an "in between" car, isn't it? ("in between" meaning not a full resto candidate basket case, and not fully restored with total documentation).
Endoscope into the cavities?

Same goes for the drivetrain, of course. Might be absolutely fine and is priced accordingly, but in the absence of recent serious work it's a gamble.

Agreed. Hideous.
Also has H4s, should be H1s?
Door locks are appropriately horizontal though.

Hmmmmm. Pretty sure I don't need another car.

That topic came up at the weekend over at Barry's. I reckon 40 years is easily achievable for the cars in full resto now. Epoxy paints, proper seam sealant, cavity protection, ACF50. Plus, of course, the fact that most of them will lead easier lives than they did with the original owners (how many will see salt? how many will live outside?)
Better be true anyway, otherwise my man maths doesn't work!
