DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Found myself a 1970 911E, burgundy with beige corduroy interior. It's being imported from Canada but started its life in Italy, Varese and owned by a local doctor there. It appears to be rust free but will undergo some light restoration and perhaps a new coat of paint but will see when it gets here.

It came with Italian equipment which seems to be a deletion of anything safety related! no headrests, no hazard lights, no seat belts etc So I am after a set of period correct seat belts if anyone can point me in the right direction. I am also on the look out for the beige corduroy material for the seat inserts as the driver's side has been re-trimmed in a much darker shade. I'm in touch with Garry at classicfx so he may be able to help out.

What a lovely looking car. Congratulations.
You are going to find the tan material hard to get (exact). The Italians were big on burgundy/tan, aubergine/tan and blue/tan combinations. Makes a lovely sight.
Those (Italian) front turn signal lenses with the silver surround are like gold dust. If they are original to the car (Bosch) they are worth protecting.
Enjoy the drive. Fantastic buy.

I am rapidly finding out how little I know about these cars so reading and absorbing as much as I can. Hopefully she's as rust free as the inspection suggests but in my past experience, this is probably very optimistic!

So the car went off to SCS porsche Exeter/Honiton and I think I've been lucky, no sign of rust! All the seams look good, jack points, drain holes etc all good. The exhaust is shot so some nice shiny SSI bits are waiting to go on. Dampers are weak so they'll be swapped for Bilstein inserts etc. Tyres were swapped for vredestein classics so be interesting to see how these fair given their excellent cost. A couple of oil leaks to sort out and she should be ready for some good runs in the spring then I'll tackle the interior and paint in the Autumn.

Yes it does Mike - looks very original ... but I am 99.5% sure it has been relatively recently repainted ... there is no dirt on the black bits. Hopefully this is just to make it look better - the underneath "shape" does look just right to me.

I agree Alan, I think it has been coated black underneath but the substrate and texture looks excellent. The original finish was a sort of grey appearance not black. However, it still looks nice as is (better than rusty holes!). The overall appearance of the car makes you confident it has been a well looked after example.

Interesting you think it is not the original underseal. I thought this but now on closer inspection I am not sure. It is the same stuff all over the underside, very textured like stonechip but not paint, more like waxoyl but not. See the picture with a bit scraped away in places to check condition underneath. It would be interesting to hear what you guys think.

The previous owner I think coated the underside with engine oil as it's covered in it, which I think was cleaned back regularly and reapplied. It looks like it worked and he knew how to look after the car which is the main reason I was confident in the purchase many miles away.

Err , neither of us said that we thought the underseal was not original ?? - in fact the opposite !! , the comment was that it looked as if it had been recently recoated / repainted.
