993 reversing switch

Hi

A friend has a 993 which has a broken or malfunctioning reverse switch

He has been told it would cost £600 to get it fixed....I have asked if he could provide a part number to know which piece is broken

But

In the meantime can anyone help...is this a common 993 problem, so there anything he can do to check himself what is broken and is the quoted cost realistic...or is there a known cheaper solution

Thanks in advance

Jonathan

Jonathan,

The reverse light function is achieved through the tiptronic gearbox selector switch fitted to the outside of the gearbox rather than the simple manual switch that we know on earlier 911's. I believe the part number is 993.613.221.00 but this may have changed over time. I cannot find a current price (out of working hours) but it would not shock me to find that it is several hundred pounds!

The only other alternative is to contact one of the salvage dealers/breakers on ebay or any of the various online partsfinder services.

HTH
