I have a 1973 914 2.0 with the side shift 901 type box. The car is rotten as outside over 10 years! (Not by me) So bad it nearly split in two when collected.
But looks like it was low mileage with 92k on it. For a future project I would like a tail shift 901 box from a 72 and earlier 914, or indeed a 901 from a 911/912 if 5 speed. I have the side shift box and all the linkages and shifter so you can do a full change of your 914. Anybody fancy a swap? Note that I am in Ireland

I have all the bits for a tail shift conversion on you side shift box if you want to swop. I will post the pictures if you need. The conversion is relatively simple.

Would be great if can convert what I have. Planning to use it in a 912 shell I got. I think the nose cone needs changing and the pinion flipped. But do I also need to change out shifter forks? Pictures would be fab!

I can make a trip over with the box to the uk by ferry so should be no worries there.

Sorry to high jack this post!! But I have both types of gearbox. And I think the tail shift is in better condition? But want to keep the side shift! How easy is it to swap these parts over ??

Hi Mark,
I am not an expert but you will need to swap the nose cones and selector forks, if you have the 2 boxes side by side should be straightforward to do, will need gaskets etc.
