Flew to Canada (Waterloo, near Toronto)

Bought this 912 (no engine but otherwise complete)

Paid a visit to Restoration Design (30 mins from the car) and bought some repair panels. What an awesome place!

Transported car to shippers in Toronto (panels stored inside)

Scheduled to arrive on 22nd October and should be ready for collecting on 28th.

Because I don't have much money, I'm looking at putting a Type4 in as opposed to trying to source an original 912 engine. I've already sourced a 901 5 speed to replace the 4 speed (donated free!) and I've got a lead on a 914 2.0 engine that I will hopefully be able to buy for not *too* much money? We'll see.

I am going to taking my time with this car, probably a good few years to get it finished with no timescales or deadlines. I want to do it well and finish it to a high standard even if it won't be all original - the lack of original engine has helped on that front, so I don't feel guilty about doing things my way.

The day the car was moved. I arrived to find nature saying a Canadian goodbye to the car. The weather had also turned to a more British feel from the beautiful sunny three weeks I'd had until this moment.


Loaded onto the U-Haul trailer on the back of my friends mighty Tundra long bed beast on a Hino truck chassis....5.7 litre petrol gas engine does around 8mpg!! The Porsche looked so tiny on the back of this thing.


At the export agents awaiting a slot in the warehouse. You can see more clearly here where the car has sadly had a bit of an 80s makeover at some point. All the chrome is gone (*most* chrome is completely removed in place of black trim, not just painted over, sadly) but it's going to be a long term project anyway and cosmetic things like the shiny bits will come at a later date.


I'm not too sold on the RS(?) style GRP bumper but I do have a proper original metal front bumper, albeit from a LWB, stowed in my 911 which is currently awaiting its own shipping from the other side of Canada. At least I'll have the option to go with a more original look once the 911 arrives, although, as said, this sort of thing is a low priority. Sorting the rusty bits will be the first issue.

The car should be landing in less than a week (fingers firmly crossed) and I can collect it a week later hopefully. Then the fun can begin.

It''ll be unloaded within a few days and then a few more days to clear customs. Then I should be able to collect it.

Kingstown Shipping have been incredible with the whole process so far and if the rest of the import process goes this seamlessly, I'll be singing their praises for a very long time!

I'm collecting it myself, just got to book the trailer hire once I know when I can collect it. It's all part of the adventure collecting it yourself, I couldn't imagine just booking a company to collect it on my behalf, where's the excitement in that? :D

indeed, they are great, Mark and the guys just make the whole thing so painless and easy

you will start counting the sleeps until collection now........

It's now cleared customs and is ready to be collected. I have a whopping £187.78 import/VAT charge to pay! ( :D )

Now to see who I can borrow a car trailer from so I can collect it next week.

I think that might have been a different car? This one was never advertised for sale, certainly not in the last four years, I know and have met the previous owners who sold it on via word of mouth. I bought it from a friend who lives in Canada, he only agreed to sell it to me because I harassed him for months into selling it. :D
