Fuel Line 912

Hi
I'm just draining the fuel from my tank prior to replacing it.
I'm using a vacuum pump at the rear to suck the fuel out
The first litre or so was heavily contaminated with rust then it ran clear
I'm assuming that is due to the fact that the car has been standing a while and the rust has settled in the bottom of the tank and yet the first litre was the bit that was still in the fuel line from the tank to the back of the car?
However does anyone know if the OE pipe which runs along the bottom of the car is stainless and therefore not prone to rust?

When you say "the OE pipe which runs along the bottom of the car", do you mean that quite literally on your 912? The original fuel pipe runs through the tunnel.

Yep KS, I meant the pipe that runs inside the tunnel

The pipe is/was definitely not stainless, and was steel (because it tends to rust out at either end where it's exposed to the elements), and looks galvanised to me. I've replaced with copper.
