Anyone fitted a high torque, lightweight starter motor. If so any comments, as I am thinking on buying one from the US.

autofarm have them too and at a similar price to what ive seen in the US.....hows your cars and the bad back !!!!

yes and no. I have not but I think Luke has only cos it was delivered to my house I then was to pass it on to luke. Luke is Ringwood way?

Oh and the guy they came from is a DDK memeber and is up in Birmingham way. Or that is where they come from one or the other..

I've got one, what do you want to know about it Alan?
It's a simple bolt in replacement (one less wire to connect on my version), very small, very light, sounds cool when it turns the engine over!

Cool, thanks Luke, Mark and Paul. I think I will be buying one, in fact two. I have seen them in the US for $120 so if they are for sale for similar money here in the UK then that’s a great price.
Paul, with regards to my car, it should be home soon and then it's refit time (that almost sounds like I am about to break into a MC Hammer tune!). As for the back... it's a slow process.

I just bought 2, one for my car and another for the S. Still not used it yet, as I have had a few delays getting the correct 98mm pistons for my car.

We had a good customer with one fitted and it was bashing the hell out of the flywheel on a 356. We have spoken to all the boys in the states and they say that the first batch had this problem. This is now fixed or so they say. Our advise would be to check your teeth on the flywheel after a month and send it back if there is a problem.

I eventually got around to fitting one on my car today, it's been sat in the garage for about 6 months
, i'd been having intermittent problems with my old sticky starter for over a year. I should have fitted it when i got it, starts on the button every time now, and I have to say it does sound pretty cool too, quite racey
but as it's only been in a day so it's too early to comment on reliability

Is autofarm the only place to get these? Anyone have the part number available so I can search for one?
Failing that, I've been looking for the standard starter motor. GSF list one for the 73 on 2.7 engine. Its a 1.5HP motor and I'm guessing that it will be the same as the one on my '72 915 gearbox. Can anyone confirm this for me. According to Porsche PET the part number looks the same.
