Twin Plug Distributor Conversions

The cost of Marelli/Bosch Replica Distributors for Twin Plug is relatively high and although they look like the real deal it is sometimes difficult to justify the cost.

Conversion of existing distributors using Jaguar Marelli caps has become popular in the States with custom rotor arms having been developed but by the time they arrive and the exchange unit returned they are also costly.

We have just designed two adapter kits to convert both early small bodied distributors and the later SC types to work with a Jag Cap and a modified Marelli Rotor.

The system has an upper bearing to support the weight of the rotor and ensure accurate alignment.

We are not sure if we should sell them as fully assembled units on an exchange basis or in 'Kit' form, I guess demand will be the deciding factor.

Our aim has been to produce a well designs and robust conversion at an affordable price.

Manufacture has started and we should have parts in the next 3 weeks.

I think a complete kit - £400-450 all parts including cap and rotor arm. £750-800 for an exchange unit with a refurbished dizzy.

That's pretty cool Chris and exactly what I designed and built for my car. Great price bet they ll go go like hot cakes . are you using points or a trigger ? I found the wiring to the cdi units was simple to double up putting a diode in each line then on to the two cdi s worked a dream.

Andy,

That's great, did your upper bearing arrangement take out the 'swash' that I have seen causing problems with some other conversions?

We have chosen the low profile bearing as it eliminates the need for a 'shaft' extension which I have also seen used and can also cause alignment problems.

The Rotor Arm adapter we have designed fits to the standard distributor shaft in an identical manner to a standard rotor arm so it is central to the shaft.

The bearing them supports the overhung weight of the Modified Marelli Rotor Arm, which interestingly is substantially out of balance in its original configuration.

The modifications we are making to the rotor arm take this into account and not only change the operating angle form the 180 degrees to the 150 degrees required but their shape also corrects the imbalance.

We hope this attention to detail will help not only basic function but also long term durability.

Also just out of interest did the revised Weber Accelerator Pump Cams help?
