Outside thermometer

I have the VDO outside thermometer gauge as part of my instrument cluster, (1966 912) I don't however have the sender unit. Is it possible to buy a sender, construct something or adapt something? It'd be cool to get it working.
Whilst on the subject of gauges, at normal operating temperature where would the oil temp gauge sit? Mine sits low but it does move slowly and I'm wondering if there's a fault in the sender or the dial.

The normal sender is below the oil filter. Not the pressure warning switch which is vertical. Running temp should be about 80-100. It's worth getting an infra gun, about £7, if you are concerned

Sorry fellas I forgot to put an alert on this and missed the replies.
Neil, I think you are referring to the oil temperature gauge, it's the outside temperature gauge sender I need which I believe mounts under one of the front wings - although I'm not 100% sure on this.
Darren - I'll try NHS, they were very good restoring my 356 gauges some years back.
I'll report back.
Cheers
Mark

I have the same issue, could anyone tell me where the outside sender mounts?
