Slow but steady progress at the moment, the cold winter isn't providing much inspiration! I've been refurbing the light lens, instrument cluster bezels and made a start on the Fuchs, i'll post up some pics soon.
I've also been lost in a world of overspray and wondering if I made the right decision with my direction to the painter. I then came across some great pics on BAT of an original paint car which has been ice blasted clean. -

These settled my nerves and made me feel like ive gone in the right direction, I'm also mid way through the blacking of arches, sills and engine bay which i'll get some pics up of soon.

"WFH" has given me a bit of a chance to do some work on the car and i've finally finished the black bits.

I've also got a load of plated bits back to try and figure out where they go.

With a fair bit of time on my hands atm I thought I would get on with my lens. They were grubby and scratched with the chrome blemished and flaking off. I hit them with a good wash and some cutting compound to remove most of the scratches. The old chrome is a bit of a pain to remove but a combo of scraping, thinner and fine wet and dry did the job eventually.
Overall i'm pleased with the results but I'm going to put a bit more time into the prep around the edge for the fronts. If you inspect them up very close there are a few imperfections in the plastic but not much more than there was on the originals. i'd say the final chrome finish is easily as 'chrome' as the originals which seems to be the real tricky bit to get right.

Its quite hard to photograph the final result.

After way to much googling I went for Spaz Stix ultimate chrome which I had to get from the US. Sprayed with an air brush and backed with their black backers. I way over ordered so will have some for sale once I'm finished.

Nice work, Ash. I did my black edged lenses, which are much easier to achieve good results on than the chrome edge ones you have. Well done.
Kind regards

Bit more Quarantine action...

This time refreshing the Gauges. This is not a job I would be in a rush to do again! much like most of the jobs that specialists charge what seems the earth for it doesn't take long for that cost to start sounding reasonable. The bezels on mine were going rusty and were just looking a bit tired. I gave the faces a gentle clean along with the glass. The real PITA was getting the bezels back on without dust inside the gauges and without damaging the new paint. I actually ended up doing a final coat once they were back on.

Some tools that came in handy -
