DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Can anyone recommend someone who can renovate my 1965 sun visors. The material is a fairly coarse 'weave' white plastic which is heat sealed. White both sides and a mirror in each. Mine are saggy, discoloured and mouse chewn!!!
Has anyone had this done and if so how pleased were you with the results?

Hi Ian

The only way to do this without destroying the edge seals is through the mirror hole. Lucky you, there is a mirror on each of yours. I have not looked inside a 65 (with the embossed pattern?) but I have been inside a 68.
You have to very carefully remove the mirror. It is bonded to the back of the vinyl if I remember but running a sharp edge around the inside of the hole will free it. It is then bonded (I think) to a flimsy frame behind it. Youhave to wiggle and prize the mirror from it. It's not held very securely and the bonding material will have dried by now. The oblong mirror will then come out of the visor hole and you can see the destroyed dried padding inside. Remove and find suitable replacement stuff cut to shape and reinsert through the mirror hole. Replace and stick your mirror back in place.

What you do to get a similar result on a non mirror visor I don't know but I fear at least a small section of the edge would have to be opened up.

Thanks Mike, sounds like you managed OK but I am afraid mine really do need total rework. I could follow your approach if the edges of mine were not mouse damaged. I have stuck many pins in wax effigies of mice since finding the damage!
As I see it there must be someone out there who makes the new repro ones that are white and black (for later model- different material too) but who are they?
The next problem will be the material but at least I have an sample of that and indeed I do have another set of visors which are even more saggy and discoloured but they have only have one mirror.
