1971 911 T Il Cacciatore

Having been inspired by all the restoration posts on this site I have decided to start my own project and share my ups and downs of Porsche restoration as I return this recently acquired 1971 911 T back to its former glory.

The car has been nicknamed Il Cacciatore which is Italian for the hunter as a tribute to a great friend who is no longer with us. He was car mad and his knowledge of motorsport was phenomenal and if it wasn’t for him I would still be reading about restoring cars rather than taking a risk, buying one and getting on with it. He was inspirational and this is a tribute to him for all the advice over the years.
This project has been under starters orders for quite some time. I have had had a few modern Porsches and my daily driver is a 2007 Gen 1 997 C4S which I have had since new. My quest for a classic Porsche started when I found the DDK website and started reading the restoration threads and it was my old mate Steve who told me to stop talking about it and find one. Sadly he never got to see this project get off the ground.
Over the past year a number of potential projects have come and gone, some better than others but with a full nut and bolt restoration being planned there was no point paying over the odds for anything half done. Eventually I found a chap on eBay who appeared to have a fairly regular supply of cars and with good feedback I eventually decided to bid on the car which is now the subject of this post. Although partly disassembled it looked fairly solid and it was at least matching numbers however it failed to reach its reserve. Having been in regular contact with the vendor during the auction I was sure there was a deal to be done, money changed hands and now the car is mine and on its way across the pond due for delivery on the 30th December 2014.
Once the car arrives the plan is to carry out a full nut and bolt restoration and I will be providing updates as we go along. I will be outsourcing where necessary (which is a lot) and doing what I can myself. The standards that other people have set with other projects are incredibly high and hopefully this thread won’t disappoint.
I have posted a few photos to give you a taster of what I will be working with once Il Cacciatore arrives.
Until next time………..
