Front tow hook, '73T

So, underside of the front tub looks OK but I think my car should have a towhook in the centre of this section.

Think it should look like this? (from a series of photos I found of a '73 car on't web)

Presumably I just need to add this:

Only reason I am hesitating is that there is a nifty looking drain there which presumably would be flattened out and blocked off with the addition of this towhook bracket? Also suggests that the panel in there may not be correct for this age of car, although I suspect it is all that's available at the mo from looking at what the various panel suppliers offer.

Years ago ( 1990 appx ) I had to replace that panel on my 72 S. Then as far as I know the panel and the tow hook came as seperate parts
( they were aftermarket). and when this job ( and a lot more ) were redone in 2012-2014 again the tow hook came seperate.
I'm not really sure I 'd tow it from the hook though, it seems flimsey and weak.

Thanks Majordad, that's very useful.

Looks to me like my car has the same panels as those you have used, with that drain hole in the front floor. Do you recall how that was dealt with when the tow hook was fitted?

Al.

FWIW my '73T has an additional tow hook under the righthand wing. You can just see it in this pic under the battery box. Its a sturdy 1/4" thick piece of steel, well attached to the inner wing.

I have no idea if it's 'factory' or if not, why anyone should feel the need to put it there.

Was your car raced ? Looks aftermarket.

Ask Mark at 9M how he dealt with my tow hook.
