Thanks!
Interesting comment. No surprises based on the fact that there's clearly so much to do, and most of the parts are off the car, so I must already be expecting lots of work?
....or do you know the car?
Cheers, Richard.

Mike, many thanks.
Your resto thread is a huge inspiration. I won't scale those heights, but am honoured to hear from you.

Hi Tom,
I gathered you had been bitten by the restoration bug. Is there a thread for your 2.4E? I'm interested!
Good luck to you too. I have no idea what shape I'm in right now - will be quite a while yet before I find out for certain.
Cheers, Richard.

Richard,

I haven't started a thread yet. Its on the to do list!

So far I have Porsche Glasgow sourcing metal panels (scary) some will be coming from the states others via Porsche classic, the bodyshop I am using have the Celette jig and I am in the process of buying towers and hiring brackets.

When time allows I will post up pictures and details.

My wife refers to the car as the Ikea car (not meant to be a term of endearment or have any positive connotations) as most of it arrived in boxes and now sits in my garage.

Its all good.

This is how it should look when its finished. Gemini Blue. :)

Hi Richard I will send you some pictures if it helps. For now here is signal orange on a RHD 2.2S which I painted over 13 years ago now. This was my daily driver for a few years. At the time budgets/prices were nothing like they are now, I bought it for £5k.
Within the last few years we have restored several 2.2S RHD, recently finishing one in Blood Orange and later this year will undertake another which is metallic blue. It would be great to be able to one day get them all together.

Good luck with your project

Now that you have questioned it Mike, absolutely not!

I have just done a quick search and there appears to be a vast array of examples in Gemini Blue!

I am a while away from paint so will have some time to get the colour right. If anyone has a good image of what it should be would love to see it.

Cheers

2.2S, RHD, Signal Orange, UK->Aus->UK

Hi Richard,
Congratulations on the car and good luck with the restoration. I am just completing my 5 year marathon.

I have chassis number 122 and it is also a 2.2S in signal orange. Yours is only 36 chassis numbers higher.
My shell stamp on the dash is ****** what is yours?
Mine too was registered in December 1969 so we have very early cars.

The reason I ask is that according to the information I have gleaned 3 off 2.2S models in signal orange were all registered in December. Maybe dealer demonstrators.
The COA you have is very close to mine except I have a sunroof. So virtually identical specification. Orange would stand out on the road!

I have always wondered what happened to these 3 initial cars and maybe yours is the second of these cars.

Wouldn't it be great if the other turned up and we could get them together, although 2 would not be too shabby.

Kind regards Ian

Ian , you might want to keep your shell number off a public forum, that's all the info needed to fake a valuable 2.2s , a few rs fakes around and it seems S models are the next on the list .... I'll edit it for the mean time

I mean that the car is already paint off, lot of rebuild work but verya sane base... I took my 70 2,2 T from sandblasting last week and found many parts to substitute, too many welding to do...the car had so much filler and bad metal patch...i will soon update my topic

Hi Ian,
Great to hear from you. I agree it sounds like mine is one of the 3 initial cars. Is yours the same one as Alan's above in the thread, or is his the "other" very early orange car, or is his a later one, do you know?
As you can see from my CoA the supplying dealer is Porsche GB, which perhaps fits with your theory that these were early demo cars (maybe press cars?).
I'd love to see your car - PM me if you fancy a meet up.
I will PM you about shell stamp on the dash.
Cheers, Richard.
