DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Thanks to Robert for arranging yet another marvelous day at Goodwood yesterday. It was a 105dB day, normally limited to 5 cars on track at a time, but as the cars were all so quiet (my 3.5 was apparently the noisiest at 103dB) we were allowed 6 cars on track, then 7 by lunchtime, giving plenty of time on what was a lightly damp but rapidly drying track.





It was the usual eclectic mix of cars, all being driven to a high standard, and with no offs I believe.

Apparently the only orange 308, owned by Foskers

Looks good. I had a similar experience at a recent GRRC 105db day - much more track time than in the past - they seem more relaxed about using a noise envelope now than simply limiting number of cars. I was clay pigeon shooting at Cowdray park but did not finish in time to pop by. It was however another good journey in the 2.2S

Nice pics Nick and sounds like another good day. Like the Orange 308 but got any more of the little Monte Carlo?

There were 2 Elans, both blue, one very standard, the other a proper HSCC race car that sounded wonderful, there is nothing like the sound of a pair of DCOEs at full bore! The Montecarlo is owned by a chap who rallies a 912, he hadn't heard of DDK, but hopefully will be along soon to describe the Lancia himself. He did mention that the original brakes were cr*p and have been replaced by a set of C12 6 pots, so I assume it stops well now.

I wondered who that was, and perhaps that explains the full course yellow flags when I saw it out there.

I covered just over 100 miles on track and as usual my car didn't miss a beat all day (despite appearances.), and I only saw one red flag, perhaps predictably for a Lotus pulling off trackside, but even that turned out to be a false alarm.

A great day yes, Nick your (orange ?)3.5 looked veeery quick, the little Lotus with the white stripe was also being driven very fast indeed.

The other blue Lotus that pulled off the track was a friends, it was just a bonnet catch that had popped open.

It was my first track day in the light blue '72 911, I was concentrating mostly on staying on the black stuff but amazing at how little braking is necessary at Goodwood, its a very fast circuit if even off being driven slowly, if you know what I mean !

I found the braking, turn in and apex boards, very useful, and the discipline of the driving very good, I was overtaken a couple of times by the faster cars / drivers but all done in a very safe way, handy at 100 down the Lavant straight

The low car numbers on track was great, I attended with four other friends and we had the circuit to ourselves for one session

Very addictive, now I'd really like to know more about how to get more out of the car at speed, keeping the car balanced and where the limits are, I'm sure the car is more capable than the driver currently

Steve, your car sounded very good out on track.

I have no idea what speed I was doing as the speedo packed up a few weeks ago, and as I trailered the car down I wasn't needing it. I was just shy of the ignition cutout at 7500 rpm in 4th on Lavant. This is definitely the fastest car I wave driven at Goodwood, I never managed Fordwater flat, but a change from TB15s in the morning to my usual Toyo 888s got rid of the unnerving oversteer there, allowing me to get round there with just a confidence lift . Both my 993s were flat there with no problems, but I suspect a tad slower overall.

Thanks Nick, mine certainly ran well, again as a trackday novice I found it easy to rev the car very high as the helmet muffles the usual engine note, I was keeping an eye on the tacho much more in the later sessions.

Flat out at Fordwater was something I did not achieve ! although lining up with the turn in boards I was surprised at how fast I could take it even after a few laps.

The level of concentration required was very high indeed, about 15 mins was enough for me, then a cuppa and a chat was reqd.

Did you get out with the blue and white striped Lotus ? Saw you out with a quick looking Ferrari, both looked and sounded great hammering down the start finish straight out of the chicane.

Ill come over and have a chat next time.

Will also get the resident instructor to come out with me, he offered but I was sidetracked.
