Newbie from Denmark

Hi all

My name is Thomas and I live in Denmark. I have been interested in old Volkswagens for many years and have had a 1303 with a 2.4 liter Type4 engine as a daily driver. In 2007 I fell in love with the 356 Speedster and decided to use my rusty 1303 as a base for the build. I chose the Chesil kit and fortunately there is a company which imports these kits in Denmark.

The first Speedster was finished in June 2009 after 15 months work. On the first test drive with the type4 engine I had used for years without any problems, the Speedster burst into flames and was gone in less than 15 minutes . From the very long oil track behind the car we concluded that an oil hose had burst.

My insurance company was very fair and covered my loss. 3 month later I started a new Chesil Speedster build and armed with a lot of experience from the first build I created the Speedster of my dreams.

The last 2 years I have been working on a hardtop for the Speedster and after hard work the result is like you can see on the picture. The hardtop has been tested all summer and almost 5000 km with hardtop has proven that it works very well. There has been some interest for this hardtop in Denmark and I have agreed to produce 2 kits this winter.

Thomas,

Your speedster looks really nice. And the hard top suits the car and so sensible. Very nice work. A good idea to photo the first speedster but were you crying when you took the photo? To complete a replica takes much time and effort, you were certainly brave to start that all over again!

Well, after 5 minutes when I knew the car was lost I just sat down and waited for the fire truck. I called my parents and my father took a lot of Pictures. It is mee you can see on the Picture with my son standing behind me. It was a sad sad day and a very empty feeling :(

I was tempted to buy a real Porsche when I got the Insurance Money - but the Speedster was a 10 year long dream.

Actually I crashed the 2. Speedster just before it was painted. I wanted to drive one summer to test everything and then get it paintet - but then I lost the rear end in a corner
The Insurance Company was fair Again and paid for a repaint of the Whole car if I repaired it myself and that took several month
